Blue Canvas Duffel
The duffel bag gained its name from Duffel, a town in Flanders, Belgium where the bag’s original course, thick, woollen fabric was made. Gaining popularity in times of war, the first recorded use of the word duffel to describe a bag came from e.e. cummings, a famous poet who served as an ambulance driver in WWI. In these times a duffel bag was often—along with its contents—all its owner had to their name. It was more than a bag, it was a companion; to be carried, kept safe and leaned on when necessary. Used extensively by servicemen and women from around the world, it has found its way into the hands of travellers and weekenders alike. Our duffel, with its inside pocket, is made from a heavyweight, high thread count canvas that is water repellent and will soften with use. It’s a bag that will see you through just about anything, much like its predecessors.
